49-O in Constitution of India - "I VOTE NOBODY"...
Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section " 49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth,
Confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone!
Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these leaders have never disclosed it.
This is called "49-O".
Why should you go and say " I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them.
This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way; of our whole political system.... it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public.... obviously they are working under instruction as there would definitely be scarcity of good candidates for all well known parties who are admissible by public as OK.
Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India ... show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... so don't miss your chance. So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O) and pass this info on...

Totally agree with you. But seriously, ppl will have to be made more aware of this if we need results. We need a campaign like 'Jaago Re' for '49-0' as well.

@ST...during 2006 May/June..a lot of chain mails were there based on this ...at that time..the 'anti reservation' campaign and Dr kalam's Vision 2020 were also there.Thats how it gained popularity.AFter that..i donno what happened...everything went cold!i feel this is the best time to spread..one is Mumbai terror..and another one..with elections in a couple of months

Wish it cud be that simple! People here just think that this time this party hasn't done well so lets vote for the other one.. And perhaps there are very few leaders in India who are sensible enough. Yeah but thats a good idea if you can get that published in a newspaper..

as the secrecy of voting is not protected here in as much as the polling officials and the polling agents in the polling station get to know about the decision of such a voter.
This could only be sucessful if there is unity as there could be implication if there isn't...

sawan - don't know its the effect of my mail or some thing else but there is a news in local paper here about this 49-0, with reference to local election officer... whatsoever may be the reasons, its encouraging for sure..
raj - its there, please check the ECI website and and link, josh have provided, there might be some confusions in implementations as the exact clarifications are not available but the provision is still there..
josh - thanks bud for the link.. I agree that it should be further improved, like having a provision in ballot paper or electronic voting machine itself... but yeah.. these things will come up with time and awareness.. as for now, people are not aware at all!!

Great info man. I executed my right in all the elections and voted since I got the privilege.
